Before You Core: A Scanning Checklist
What to scan, mark and document before any core hole or anchor.
Most drilling accidents are information accidents: the drawing was wrong, the scan was skipped, or the marks were not transferred to the working surface.
Scan the actual area, not just where the drawing says the target is. Mark every detected target in the work zone with depth notes. Post-tension slabs get a wider caution margin: cutting a cable is dangerous and expensive.
Keep the scan report with the permit or work order. If the scope shifts even slightly, rescan. Gypsum, tile and topping can hide targets that the original scan saw through.
